The EFP have recently published the first formal evidence-based guideline, for treating stages I to III of periodontitis.

According to the 2018 edition of the perio classification of periodontal and peri-implant diseases and conditions, it contains 62 evidence-based recommendations on various therapies (graded according to the strength of the evidence supporting them and the level of consensus among the experts who drew them) in relation to the first three stages of periodontitis.

The guideline is the result of the Perio Workshop 2019, a scientific gathering hosted by the EFP in November 2019 in La Granja, Spain, where 90 experts from 19 different countries assessed 15 systematic reviews on various types of periodontal therapy.
