The EFP published its second evidence-based guideline, on the multidisciplinary treatment of stage IV periodontitis

The EFP published its second evidence-based guideline, on the multidisciplinary treatment of stage IV periodontitis, in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology in June 2022. It included the evaluation of 13 systematic reviews of forms of periodontal therapy.

This recommendation is the result of the Perio Workshop 2021, a scientific conference hosted by the EFP in November 2021 in La Granja, Spain. At this stage, periodontists must work with other dental specialists like orthodontists and prosthodontists to restore proper functioning and manage periodontitis sequelae. Stage IV periodontitis poses significant challenges, including dealing with tooth loss and mastication issues.
